General Fund

The Castro Community Benefit District is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in the Castro district of San Francisco. Governed by a community-based board of directors, the Castro CBD’s mission is to provide services that improve the quality of life in the neighborhood, emphasizing clean, safe, beautiful streets. It also promotes the area’s economic vitality, fosters the Castro’s unique district identity, and honors its diverse history.

Your donations help support all the Castro CBD’s programs including our Cleaning Ambassadors who work tirelessly to keep the Castro clean, our Castro Cares program which provides unarmed Community Ambassadors to help deter negative street behavior and provide homeless outreach, our volunteers that welcome visitors to the neighborhood and encourage them to linger and explore, and our programs to support the economic vitality of the Castro including efforts to fill vacant storefronts and beautification strategies. You become part of all these efforts by donating. The Castro Community Benefit District is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and all donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Donations can be made to the CBD’s general fund which allows the board of directors to direct these funds to the areas of greatest need to further our mission and benefit the community.

Donate to help restore this iconic Upper Market St. mural! Originally painted over 40 years ago, the mural is being restored by the original artist, Betsie Miller-Kusz, working with a team of assistants and volunteers. The restoration is sponsored by the Eureka Valley Neighborhood Association, in partnership with the Castro CBD, but the project requires additional funding to complete, so that is where you come in! Please donate.

Market Street Tree Lights

Light Up The Market Street Palm Trees Fund

Donations to this fund help the CBD pay for the electricity on the new uplighting of the Market St palm trees. In all, 44 palm trees are now lit with a total of 88 lights.

Castro Cares Fund

Donations to this fund go directly to the Castro Cares program which funds unarmed community ambassadors seven days a week walking the district, providing a uniformed presence and an extra set of eyes and ears on the street. The community ambassadors also provide outreach to the unhoused and work closely with the city’s services for those unhoused and high-risk individuals in the Castro and Upper Market.
