It’s Time to RENEW! The Castro/Upper Market Community Benefit District is Embarking on our Renewal – it’s an Exciting Time!
The Castro/Upper Market Community Benefit District has been stewards of the 20 block Castro/Upper Market since 2005. We’ve provided critical services during this time: cleaning the district, removing graffiti, providing public safety services, beautifying the district, maintaining it’s identity as the world renowned gayborhood and leader in LGBT rights, and developing a variety of strategies to make the Castro & Upper Market vibrant, fun and safe.
Renewal brings the opportunity for the CBD board to examine its boundaries, the services provided, the budget and the assessment rate. There will be targeted meetings for stakeholders and general community meetings as part of this renewal process. Follow the Castro CBD on facebook and these newsletters to learn more.
What does this mean? The Castro Community Benefit District is funded through an assessment fee on each property (parcel) that falls within our footprint. The assessment fee appears on the property tax bill. When the Castro CBD was formed in 2005, it was formed with a 15-year “life”. The first step is a discussion of the potential new boundaries, a survey of the property owners and then an analysis of the services, budget and assessment rates. There will be targeted meetings for stakeholders and general community meetings as part of this renewal process. Follow the Castro CBD on facebook and these newsletters to learn more.
